Fields of work in child and youth work:

What is child and youth work?

The aim of child and youth work is to support young people in developing into self-determined, independent and socially competent personalities. It offers a framework outside of family and school structures and is therefore something very special: it offers children and young people a world of learning and experience that they cannot find anywhere else. The focus is on what children and young people are interested in: Their ideas, their dreams, their abilities, their worries.

The children and youth work offers are very diverse so that there is something for every young person! They range from individual counseling, open meetings and workshops to camps and trips together. The wide range of interests and social areas are also reflected in the broad field of youth work.

The topics covered include sport, games, art, technology, civil protection, human rights, social policy, environmental protection and many more. Voluntariness, participation, independent experimentation and equality are important principles of youth work. The focus is always on the needs and life situations of children and young people: Young people can actively get involved and help shape the activities on offer. Since 2021, accessibility and barrier-free accessibility have also been explicitly demanded so that all young people can take advantage of child and youth work services.

The fields of child and youth work are truly so unique in their blend of diversity, variety, social responsibility and effectiveness that it is worth taking another look at the three main areas of child and youth work:
